At Insurify, our goal is to help customers compare insurance products and find the best policy for them. We strive to provide open, honest, and unbiased information about the insurance products and services we review. Our hard-working team of data analysts, insurance experts, insurance agents, editors and writers, has put in thousands of hours of research to create the content found on our site.

We do receive compensation when a sale or referral occurs from many of the insurance providers and marketing partners on our site. That may impact which products we display and where they appear on our site. But it does not influence our meticulously researched editorial content, what we write about, or any reviews or recommendations we may make. We do not guarantee favorable reviews or any coverage at all in exchange for compensation.

Why you can trust Insurify: Comparing accurate insurance quotes should never put you at risk of spam. We earn an agent commission only if you buy a policy based on our quotes. Our editorial team follows a rigorous set of editorial standards and operates independently from our insurance partners. Learn more.

24Petwatch offers pet protection services, including microchipping, pet tags, and pet insurance. While it seems relatively easy to sign up for the microchipping service, finding information about the insurance coverage and trying to get a quote can be an incredibly difficult experience.

24Petwatch doesn’t offer online quotes. You have to call customer service to speak with an agent. It also isn’t clear on the website who underwrites the insurance policies and exactly what each policy covers.

Here’s what else you need to consider when trying to decide whether 24Petwatch is right for you.

Quick Facts
  • 24Petwatch allows you to visit any vet with no restrictions.

  • Accident-only, accident and illness, and wellness add-on plans are available.

  • 24Petwatch doesn’t cover pre-existing conditions.

24Petwatch: Our verdict

24Petwatch advertises pet health insurance for cats and dogs but provides very little information about its policies and lacks a transparent pet insurance purchasing experience. Upon visiting the site, you’ll find no online quote option. Instead, you have to call the company’s customer service line and speak to a representative in the sales department.

To find any details about coverage options, you have to read through the North River Insurance Company underwriter’s policy terms and conditions document, which lists the policies available. This includes an accident-only policy with $20,000 in coverage, and five different accident and illness policies ranging from $1,500 to $20,000 in coverage.

While it seems that 24Petwatch offers a good variety of policy options, it’s important to note that two of the policy options with the highest limits, the Super Policy with a $10,000 coverage maximum and the Champion Policy with a $20,000 coverage maximum, are no longer available.

The company notes additional insurance options are available through 24Petwatch’s sister company, 24Petprotect.

24Petwatch plans and coverages

24Petwatch advertises six different coverage options, including one accident-only plan and five accident and illness plans. Each plan offers a different limit for the cost of veterinary care, ranging from $1,500 to $20,000, and deductibles ranging from $100 to $1,000. It also has an optional wellness coverage plan that you can purchase as an additional benefit.

Here’s a closer look at the plans.

Accident only

The accident only plan covers unexpected or unintended accidents that result in an acute injury to your pet. For instance, accident-only coverage might help cover medical expenses if a car hits your pet and your pet fractures a bone.

With accident-only coverage, you can get up to $20,000 in veterinary fee coverage per policy term.

Accident and Illness

24Petwatch has five levels of accident and illness coverage, with varying levels of veterinary fee coverage. For each eligible claim, you pay 20% and 24Petwatch pays the other 80% once you’ve paid the deductible.

Below are the coverage levels, benefit maximums, and deductibles for the different accident and illness plans.

Coverage LevelMaximum Benefit AmountDeductibles
Essential$1,500$100
Extra$3,000$100, $250
Classic$5,000$100, $250, $500
Super*$10,000$100, $250, $500, $1,000
Champion*$20,000$100, $250, $500, $1,000
*24Petwatch lists Super and Champion plans but has noted to Insurify that these plans are no longer available.

Some of the conditions accident and illness insurance covers include:

  • Ear illness

  • Eye illness

  • Flea allergy dermatitis

  • Intestinal parasites

  • Upper respiratory infection

  • Urinary tract infection

  • Mange, mites, ringworm

  • Parvovirus, feline panleukopenia

  • Tick-borne diseases

  • Heartworm diseases

Wellness benefits

You can also add wellness benefits to some coverage options for an additional charge. 24Petwatch has two wellness plans — routine and advanced coverage. You can include either wellness option as an add-on to the accident and illness packages (except for the Essential plan).

Some of the services and procedures the wellness benefit covers include:

  • Dental cleaning (only for the advanced option)

  • Fecal screen

  • Heartworm/flea prevention (only for the advanced option)

  • Heartworm test or FELV screen

  • Microchip procedure and/or urinalysis

  • Spay/neuter

  • Wellness exam

  • Select vaccinations

What 24Petwatch doesn’t cover

Like most pet insurance policies, 24Petwatch doesn’t cover pre-existing medical conditions. This includes any injury or illness that occurred, was noted, or was diagnosed before your coverage effective date or during the waiting period. In some cases, if your pet hasn’t shown clinical symptoms or signs of chronic conditions for 24 months before your policy start date, 24Petwatch might not consider it a pre-existing condition.

Some of the other coverage exclusions are:

  • Preventive care and routine treatment

  • Elective and cosmetic procedures

  • Treatments related to breeding or pregnancy

  • Treatments required due to lack of preventive health measures (such as vaccinations and grooming)

  • Treatments prevented with spaying or neutering

  • Dental and orthodontic healthcare

In addition to these exclusions, there are also policy limitations, including:

  • Bilateral musculoskeletal illness conditions (such as hip dysplasia and cruciate ligaments)

  • Feline vaccine-associated sarcoma (FVS)

  • Therapeutic food (max benefit of $500 per year)

  • Alternative therapy (max benefit of $1,000 per year)

  • Ambulance and paramedical services for emergency care (max $500 per incident)

How much does 24Petwatch cost?

The 24Petwatch website has no option to get an online quote. Instead, you have to call customer service and speak to an agent. Insurify’s calls to customer service led to sitting on hold, being transferred multiple times, and finally being disconnected — all without getting any quote.

How customers feel about 24Petwatch

24Petwatch scored 1.4 out of 5 stars on Yelp with 435 reviews and 3.2 stars on Trustpilot based on only 7 reviews.[1][2] Clients who left positive customer reviews cite an easy claims submission process and quick payouts.

Negative 24Petwatch pet insurance plan reviews focus on poor customer service, aggressive sales tactics, and issues with the microchip products and services.

The bottom line: Is 24Petwatch pet insurance worth it?

For how difficult it is to find information about its pet insurance coverage options and get a quote, 24Petwatch insurance likely isn’t worth the trouble.

While pet insurance is an important consideration for any pet owner, consider looking for companies that provide more transparent policy information and a more enjoyable customer service experience.
